Righteousness for the unrighteous—that’s what we receive in Christ. And it’s what we carry into the world, inviting others into this life-changing reality. At Hillcrest, we’ve never been more eager for what God is doing. Yet never more aware of the temptation to shrink back in fear. In a world deeply divided, God has called us to be unified in Christ as it is our witness.

Through Romans, our prayer is that we will grow in our understanding of the gospel (Following Jesus) and our identity as a new humanity (Building Community), unified and anchored in the truth that the world and the enemy are relentlessly attacking. And through that unity, God will use us to proclaim to a yet-to-believe world (Seeking Transformation) that our horizontal unity flows from the vertical unity Christ offers all who come to the Father through His righteousness.

Romans confronts us with the central question: How can the righteous God declare unrighteous people righteous without compromising His own righteousness? The answer is Jesus. By faith and by grace, God maintains His holy character while dealing fully with our sin—through Christ alone.
