Hillcrest Residency
Preparing the
NEXT GENERATION
of pastors for our secular age
We accomplish this through…
Year 1 - Apprentice
LEAD SELF
-
The overall goal for the first year of Residency is a “we lead, you help” approach. We believe that modeling matters so much as we teach and lead others. In Year One, we want to focus our residents on becoming ingrained in our church family and cultivating relationships within our local context.
Year 2 - Journeyman
LEAD OTHERS
-
The overall goal for the second year of Residency is a “you lead, we help” approach. As a resident moves into his second year, we desire to see him take another step towards more responsibility in the church family. In Year Two, we want to shift the focus of our residents toward how to successfully lead other leaders and point them in a disciple-making direction.
Year 3 - Master
LEAD LEADERS
-
The overall goal for the third year of Residency is a “you lead, we watch” approach. As residents move into their final year, we desire to see them take nearly full responsibility as a member of our staff team. In year three, instead of just leading other leaders, as was the focus in Year 2, we now press our residents to successfully multiply leaders as they empower them to be disciple-makers.

Hillcrest Internship
Giving young men and women
EXPERIENCES IN VOCATIONAL MINISTRY
as they assess their calling and deepen their appreciation of God’s design for the local church.
This internship exists because we are convinced that within the next generation the harvest is plentiful, but the joy-filled laborers are few. We think that this internship opportunity will equip and empower young adults to serve within the local church now and set them up to continue this joyful service wherever the Lord may lead them.
-
We are Joyful Opportunity Seekers not deterred by obstacles.
We are Building a Farm Team from within, not from the outside in free agency.
We are Open Handed to wherever God may lead, not closed fisted to our own plans.
We are Ever-growing Learners, not stagnant academics.
-
Spiritual Formation - Growth in personal faith as defined by our model of discipleship (Following Jesus, Building Community, Seeking Transformation)
Practical Training - Hands-on vocational ministry experience and training in a local church.
Theological Development - Develop a theological framework of life from Scripture.
Ministry Philosophy - Grow in what a character-driven, relationally-focused student ministry looks like.
-
Ability to read Scripture first-hand and apply it within relationships.
Gain clarity in how to serve in the local church and discern how to use time, treasure, and talents in the future.
Be sent out confidently into everyday life with more joy in the person of Christ.
Have a heart to invest in the next generation of Christians as they too, find more joy in Christ.
“God knew I needed to be humbled. I am not better than anyone because I go to a Bible College, I am not better than anyone because I have a relationship with the Lord. The Lord should be the one who is on the throne of my life, not myself.”
Tori Lancaster - Student Ministry Summer 2023
“The most impactful part of my time interning at Hillcrest is the clear mission of discipleship. I was actively pushed to build relationships with students, and those relationships that I built I am able to maintain even without having the ability to attend every week.”
Hunter Jackson - Student Ministry 2023-2024
“Interning at HBC was such a fun and powerful experience. I was able to learn so much about my relationship to Jesus, and how that relationship affects others around me!”
Luke Wille - Student Ministry Summer 2024
